Transparency in Set-top Box Methodology: Set On/Set Off Editing Guidelines

At TNS Media Research, we know we are pioneers in a new space within the media industry. We love the challenge that set-top box data offers and the opportunities it presents. We also recognize the need for greater transparency on the part of organizations providing STB measurement services. TNS Media Research prides itself on being transparent with clients and within the industry.

The issue of set on/set off editing is one of the most visible, if not the most visible editing issue associated with STB reporting. TNS MR has been working with STB data in commercial applications for more than six years and during this time, our set on/set off editing approach has evolved. Today, we utilize a data-driven approach that does not require any outside reference data and that addresses both Type I and Type II set on/set off errors. As part of our commitment to transparency, TNS Media Research is publishing and sharing its guidelines on the specific issue of set on/set off editing.
